Celebrating a year in the city, August (1) Five is a modern Indian restaurant with a California-influenced menu of tasty small plates and shareable dishes. You won’t find any curries here, but instead an inventive mix of ingredients and flavors, like mushrooms combined with english peas, cashews and cane sugar or lamb kebab rolls with pickled onion, cilantro chutney and black sesame. And then the cocktails—this is an experience in itself. They smoke, effervesce and surprise you with unexpected flavors. Like the Glamping, which is a take on the a s’more made with bourbon, toasted marshmallow and smoked with dry ice. It’s no surprise they are the recipient of the 2017 Saucy Award for Cocktail Program of the Year. And if you’re wondering what August (1) Five is, it’s Indian Independence Day. With its unique style and menu, it’s definitely a breakaway from the traditional Indian food experience.
